Deploying Odoo 20: prepare your migration

Versions, modules, data and acceptance testing: plan a controlled transition without rushing the switch.

Changing versions is a business project, not just a technical update. First confirm the version available for your hosting and module compatibility. This guide describes preparation; it makes no promises about unverified Odoo 20 features.

A four-step approach

Take stock before deciding

List applications, custom developments, integrations and critical processes. Identify the sales, accounting and inventory owners who will approve acceptance testing.

Confirm the migration path

Check the target version, schedule and hosting constraints with Odoo or your partner. Review every third-party module and API; do not assume compatibility.

Test on an isolated copy

Prepare a backup and a neutralised copy. Replay quotations, invoicing, payments, inventory and external exchanges without sending real messages or making real payments.

Plan the switch and rollback

Agree acceptance criteria, a cutover window and a restoration plan with your hosting provider. Train users and arrange follow-up after launch.

Questions and practical answers

Should we migrate immediately?

Not without understanding your needs, compatibility and hosting schedule. A new version being available is not enough to justify switching.

Can we keep custom developments?

They must be reviewed and tested on the target. Some may be adapted and others replaced by native features; scope follows the inventory.

Turn your reading into a project

Already using Odoo? Prepare your inventory and the three business workflows you cannot interrupt. We can then scope the support you need.
